The Canadian Nuclear Association (CNA) is excited to announce a series of upcoming Workforce Planning Forums aimed at addressing the critical workforce needs of Canada’s rapidly growing nuclear industry. These forums will serve as crucial platforms for industry leaders, educators, and policymakers to collaborate and shape the future of the nuclear workforce.
Upcoming Forums:
- Saskatchewan: Tuesday, January 21, 2025
- New Brunswick: Tuesday, February 4, 2025
A Sector on the Rise
Canada’s nuclear sector is experiencing an impressive resurgence. A recent study by the CNA reveals a 17% increase in jobs since 2019, with the workforce now numbering 89,000 individuals. This growth translates to a $22 billion annual contribution to Canada’s GDP, underscoring the industry’s economic significance.
This positive momentum is driven by several factors, including successful nuclear plant refurbishment projects and increasing recognition of nuclear energy’s pivotal role in decarbonization and energy security. Notably, 44% of nuclear jobs are held by those under 40, indicating a promising future for the sector.
Addressing Workforce Challenges and Opportunities
The industry’s expansion creates a pressing need for skilled professionals across various disciplines. The CNA, in partnership with its members, is committed to addressing this challenge by focusing on:
- Attracting Talent: Showcasing the diverse and rewarding career opportunities within the nuclear sector to a new generation of workers.
- Education and Training: Collaborating with educational institutions to ensure the availability of relevant training programs and upskilling opportunities.
- Retention: Developing strategies to foster a supportive and fulfilling work environment to retain valuable talent.
