CNA Workforce Planning Forum- New Brunswick
This is a one-day workshop on workforce planning within the New Brunswick nuclear sector. This event is designed to provide valuable insights and strategies to address workforce challenges in the industry. As a benefit of your CNA membership, this workshop is offered at no additional cost.
Canadian jurisdictions are moving toward a sustainable future leveraging existing power-generating assets and new technologies. The nuclear sector is well-positioned to provide a significant portion of this need through the buildout of large and small reactors across the country. These growth projections must be supported by an increase in the skilled workforce necessary to meet demand. New nuclear advancements will require a new generation of engineers, technicians, operators, scientists, entrepreneurs, regulators and policy makers who have the requisite knowledge, skills and experience to enable, steer, build, regulate and operate new fleets.
Some of the key challenges related to the nuclear workforce include: maintaining the current workforce in light of an aging population and voluntary attrition; an increasingly competitive labor market across all positions; lack of sufficient training programs to enable growth of a younger workforce; and, making the nuclear sector attractive to students.
The CNA is working with its members to explore the solutions to these and other challenges. The events will bring the nuclear sector together to explore and discuss possible solutions to many of the challenges in the workforce space. The presentations and discussions will directly inform the sector’s workforce strategy that will be a focus for CNA and its members in the next couple years.

The 57th JAIF Annual Conference
Japan Atomic Industrial Forum (JAIF) holds the “JAIF Annual Conference” each spring, a flagship event for the nuclear industry that attracts nuclear experts, specialists and other nuclear-related people from Japan and around the world.
As the entire world stands at a critical crossroads in terms of energy security and decarbonization, many countries are reconsidering nuclear power, and with government support, there is a trend toward active use of nuclear power generation. In Japan, significant progress has been made on the policy front, including the establishment of the “Basic Policy for the Realization of GX” aiming for a shift to a clean energy-centered socio-economic and industrial structure, the decision on the “Future Nuclear Energy Policy Direction and Action Guidelines,” which outlines the six pillars related to nuclear energy policies, and the enactment of the “GX Decarbonization Power Supply Bill”.
In order to fulfill the role of nuclear power as an industry in response to these policy movements, it is necessary to develop a business environment that takes into account the characteristics of demonstrating excellent economic efficiency of nuclear power through long-term stable operation.
Looking ahead to Japan’s 7th Strategic Energy Plan, the 57th conference, through discussions based on Japan’s “Future Nuclear Energy Policy Direction and Action Guidelines”, will provide an opportunity for not only Japan but also other countries to discuss the future of nuclear energy policy and the direction of solving challenges such as backend processes and strengthening of the human resources base which those countries commonly face.
