Canadian Nuclear Association response to BAPE report

OTTAWA (July 17, 2015) –The Canadian Nuclear Association (CNA) looks forward to working with the Quebec Government as it studies the benefits and risks posed by uranium mining.

“We appreciate that the Quebec Government is keeping an open mind on this issue, particularly as it works with all other provinces to develop a clean energy strategy for Canada,” CNA President , John Barrett said.

The CNA will review the report that has been released today.

Nuclear power generation provides low emitting Green House Gas electricity that helps to fight climate change.

Nuclear power generation provided 62 per cent of Ontario’s low emitting electricity.

Canada is a world leader in uranium mining and nuclear fuel fabrication. The uranium mining industry is Canada’s largest industrial employer of Aboriginal people. Canada’s nuclear industry employs 60,000 Canadians and contributes more than 6 billion dollars in economic activity.
