Industry Statement on Advancing a Secure Nuclear Fuel Supply Chain
Joint industry statement on the multilateral statement to advance a secure nuclear fuel supply chain at COP28 from:
- John Gorman, President and CEO, Canadian Nuclear Association
- Shiro Arai, President, Japan Atomic Industrial Forum
- Maria Korsnick, President and CEO, Nuclear Energy Institute
- Tom Greatrex, Chief Executive Officer, Nuclear Industry Association
- Yves Desbazeille, Director General, nucleareurope
“As representatives of the nuclear energy industry, we are encouraged by today’s multi-national fuel commitment, as it builds on the important work that our governments and industries began this past spring at the G7 Meeting of Climate, Energy, and Environment Ministers in Sapporo Japan.
Earlier this week at COP28, these same governments along with nearly 20 others set an ambition to triple nuclear energy generation by 2050. As the demand for clean nuclear energy continues to surge around the globe, so too does the need for a reliable and secure fuel supply—which not only advances our decarbonization and energy independence goals but also strengthens our collective national security. Government action is essential to build up our capabilities, but it will also require the investment of private companies and financial institutions to advance the commitments made today.
As we celebrate the 70th anniversary of ‘Atoms for Peace’, it’s more critical than ever that we collaborate with allied countries to establish the nuclear infrastructure needed to scale up nuclear capacity in the decades to come.”
