CNA Workforce Planning Forum
CNA Workforce Planning Forum
This is a one-day workshop on workforce planning within the Saskatchewan nuclear sector. This event is designed to provide valuable insights and strategies to address workforce challenges in the industry. As a benefit of your CNA membership, this workshop is offered at no additional cost.
Canadian jurisdictions are moving toward a sustainable future leveraging existing power-generating assets and new technologies. The nuclear sector is well-positioned to provide a significant portion of this need through the buildout of large and small reactors across the country. These growth projections must be supported by an increase in the skilled workforce necessary to meet demand. New nuclear advancements will require a new generation of engineers, technicians, operators, scientists, entrepreneurs, regulators and policy makers who have the requisite knowledge, skills and experience to enable, steer, build, regulate and operate new fleets.
Some of the key challenges related to the nuclear workforce include: maintaining the current workforce in light of an aging population and voluntary attrition; an increasingly competitive labor market across all positions; lack of sufficient training programs to enable growth of a younger workforce; and, making the nuclear sector attractive to students.
The CNA is working with its members to explore the solutions to these and other challenges. The events will bring the nuclear sector together to explore and discuss possible solutions to many of the challenges in the workforce space. The presentations and discussions will directly inform the sector’s workforce strategy that will be a focus for CNA and its members in the next couple years.

Globe & Mail: New Nuclear – What does industry growth mean for Canada?
Join The Globe and Mail for a discussion on the future of nuclear, how it’s reshaping the nation’s energy mix and why it matters. In addition to experiencing this dynamic conversation on-site, in-person attendance will also provide ample opportunity for professional networking.
Governments and utilities are working to expand Canada’s nuclear energy capacity in response to growing demand for electricity and goals of net-zero. Refurbishments and new reactors represent billions of dollars in investments and a sizeable economic impact. At the same time, small modular reactors (SMRs) are emerging as an alternative to fossil fuels in areas such as remote communities, and for industry. As nuclear energy continues to gain momentum where are the biggest risks, considerations and opportunities?
