CANADIAN NUCLEAR ASSOCIATION TOUTS ONTARIO’S NUCLEAR ADVANTAGE
OTTAWA (February 24, 2017) – The Canadian Nuclear Association has launched a new website to educate the public and governments about Ontario’s Nuclear Advantage.
You can learn more about the benefits of nuclear at www.OntariosNuclearAdvantage.com.
This campaign coincides with the $25 billion refurbishment programs at the Darlington and Bruce Power nuclear stations and the extension of the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station to 2024.
“When it comes to providing reliable, low-cost, clean power with jobs and world-class innovation, nuclear power provides us with a significant advantage and is the right choice for Ontarians,” said CNA President Dr. John Barrett.
“Nuclear is a key part of Ontario’s long-term, low-carbon energy system,” he added. “Together, Ontario’s three nuclear generating stations provide 10 million homes with electricity 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 30 per cent below the average cost of clean electricity in Ontario.”
Last year, nuclear power provided 62 per cent of Ontario’s electricity. It’s the backbone of Ontario’s electricity system that provides families and businesses with a low-cost source of clean electricity.
It’s important we get the facts out about the advantages of nuclear power and set the record straight about its contribution as a low-cost energy provider.
Nuclear energy also helps keep the air we breathe clean. Ontario’s nuclear sector is a world leader in the supply of cobalt-60 to support leading edge health care technology around the world.
We hope through this factual website you will learn more about Ontario’s nuclear advantage.
