Nuclear industry welcomes new OPG President and CEO Jeffrey Lyash
OTTAWA (July 22, 2015) – The Canadian Nuclear Association (CNA) congratulates Jeffrey Lyash on his appointment as the President and CEO of Ontario Power Generation (OPG).
Mr. Lyash brings over 30 years’ experience working in both the public and private sectors.
Mr. Lyash was most recently the President of Power for Chicago Bridge & Iron Company (CB&I) and previously was the Executive Vice President of Energy Supply with Duke Supply. His global background in the power business includes fossil fuels, renewable generation and nuclear. Mr. Lyash also served as a Senior Resident Inspector for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
“Mr. Lyash’s nuclear experience will help to ensure that nuclear energy remains a key component of the province’s long-term energy strategy,” said CNA President and CEO John Barrett. “We look forward to supporting him, and OPG, in the successful refurbishment of OPG’s reactors at the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station.”
Lyash replaces Tom Mitchell, who served as OPG president for more than six years and helped to guide the nuclear industry as Vice Chairman of the CNA.
“Under Tom Mitchell’s leadership, OPG became a clean-energy utility,” said Dr. Barrett. “He can say with pride that 99.3 per cent of OPG’s power generation emits zero greenhouse gases, thanks to the elimination of coal-fired generation in Ontario, and its steady, reliable foundation of nuclear energy, hydro power and biomass.”
