Former Cameco Corp CEO Honoured for Outstanding Contributions to Nuclear Industry
OTTAWA (22 février 2012) – The Canadian Nuclear Association (CNA) and the Canadian Nuclear Society (CNS) today announced Mr. Gerald (Jerry) Grandey as the 2012 Ian McRae Award recipient. The award is presented annually to an individual who has made substantive contributions to the advancement of nuclear energy in Canada.
I am proud to be presented with this prestigious award,especially from my peers who had the pleasure of working with for over 30 years, said Mr. Grandey. Its an exciting time for nuclear energy both in Canada and around the world, headded.Our industry continues to seize opportunities that will allow us to advance Canadas uranium sector and our nuclear technology worldwide.
Grandey retired on June 30, 2011, stepping down from his role as the chief executive officer of Cameco Corporation, one of the worlds largest uranium producers and growing nuclear energy company. Throughout his distinguished career in Canada’s nuclear industry, Mr.Grandey earned the reputation as well-respected, influential leader who helped shape nuclear advancement on a global scale. He is being recognized for raising the nuclear profile to higher level a long with Canada’s reputation as world leader in nuclear safety. Among many career achievements, Mr.Grandey negotiated deal which facilitated the dismantlement of 20,000 nuclear warheads, helped establish Cameco Corporation as dominant nuclear energy company, and shaped its mission of bringing the many benefits of nuclear energy to the world.
The 2012 CNS/CNA Ian McRae Award was presented to Mr.Grandey in special ceremony during the opening of the 2012 CNA Conference and TradeShow. The event is the industrys annual forum in Canada for presentations and discussions about nuclear energy with over 600 delegates including members of the nuclear and energy sectors, politicians, government officials, diplomats, investors, environmentalists, international delegations, and over 100 university students from across the country.
Mr. Grandey currently serves on the boards of Canadian Oil Sands Limited, PotashCorp,Sandspring Resources and Saskatoon YMCA. He is member of the Board of Governors of the Colorado School of Mines, on the Deans Advisory Council at the Edwards School of Business and is chairman emeritus of the World Nuclear Association.
