The agreement confirms LLRIB’s support for Cameco’s mining operations in northern Saskatchewan. It also confirms both parties’ commitment to protecting the environment and ensures LLRIB will continue to benefit from employment, business opportunities and community investment from the industry. The two parties have been working together for more than 30 years. The agreement formalizes the responsibilities of each party and provides a roadmap for future success.
“Cameco is Canada’s largest industrial employer of Indigenous people and we are proud of its strong relationships with the communities in northern Saskatchewan,” said Dr. John Barrett, CNA President and CEO. “This signing demonstrates the importance of these relationships for responsible mining practices and sustainable development in Canada’s North, thereby ensuring healthy and resilient communities for the future.”
The agreement focuses on four key pillars including: developing the workforce through employment opportunities and opportunities for business development, community engagement, environmental stewardship, and investments in community trusts that can be used for various projects including infrastructure.
A joint implementation committee will be responsible for reviewing all matters and implementing the agreement.
