{"id":8402,"date":"2013-06-10T01:00:24","date_gmt":"2013-06-10T05:00:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cna.ca\/?post_type=news&#038;p=8402"},"modified":"2020-03-10T13:55:32","modified_gmt":"2020-03-10T17:55:32","slug":"canadian-nuclear-association-welcomes-liability-amendments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cna.ca\/fr\/2013\/06\/10\/canadian-nuclear-association-welcomes-liability-amendments\/","title":{"rendered":"Canadian Nuclear Association Welcomes Liability&nbsp;Amendments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>TORONTO (10 juin 2013)<\/strong><span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>\u2013 The Canadian Nuclear Association welcomes today\u2019s announcement that the federal government<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nrcan.gc.ca\/media-room\/news-release\/2013\/7188\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">proposes to amend the Nuclear Liability Act<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have consistently supported an increase in the liability limit,\u201d said association president Heather Kleb. \u201cWe look forward to participating in the legislative process when it takes place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The federal minister of natural resources, Joe Oliver, told the Canadian Nuclear Society\u2019s annual conference today that the government intends to introduce amendments to the legislation in the fall session of Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>The government has introduced amendments on four previous occasions but each effort remained on the order paper when Parliament concluded its sessions.<\/p>\n<p>Kleb added: \u201cWe are proud that no claim has ever been filed under the liability act. This reflects our industry\u2019s constant focus on improving safety and performance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kleb also welcomed Oliver\u2019s statement that Canada will ratify the Convention on Supplementary Compensation.
