That\u2019s after federal Minister of Natural Resources Seamus O\u2019Regan and before World Association of Nuclear Operations Chairman Tim Mitchell and Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission President Rumina Velshi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before becoming executive director in 2015, Birol served for nine years as the IEA\u2019s chief economist and director of Global Energy Economics in Paris. He began his second four-year term as executive director in September 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under his leadership, the IEA embarked on its first comprehensive modernization program since its creation in 1974.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year, the IEA released its landmark fuel report <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iea.org\/reports\/nuclear-power-in-a-clean-energy-system\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nuclear Power in a Clean Energy System<\/a><\/em> during the Clean Energy Ministerial in Vancouver. The report is the IEA\u2019s first to address nuclear power in nearly 20 years. According to the report, \u201cWith nuclear power facing an uncertain future in many countries, the world risks a steep decline in its use in advanced economies that could result in billions of tonnes of additional carbon emissions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Birol is also responsible for the IEA\u2019s flagship report <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iea.org\/reports\/world-energy-outlook-2019\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">World Energy Outlook 2019<\/a>.<\/em> It is recognized as the most authoritative source for strategic analysis of global energy markets. \u201cIt explains the impact of today\u2019s decisions on tomorrow\u2019s energy systems, and describes a pathway that enables the world to meet climate, energy access and air quality goals while maintaining a strong focus on the reliability and affordability of energy for a growing global population.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don\u2019t miss out on this presenter as he takes part in the CNA\u2019s conference for a second year in a row.
