Canada\u2019s nuclear energy sector \u201cplays a key role in driving innovation, generating jobs, and providing low electricity rates.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s the first conclusion of the\u00a0Public Policy Forum\u2019s recent report<\/a> on the sector\u2019s future.<\/p>\n

CNA read it with great interest, not just because we\u2019d sponsored it, but because we did not get to co-write it and, until we received an advance copy a little while ago, we did not know what it would say.<\/p>\n

Canada\u2019s nuclear industry values the broad, multi-stakeholder conversations on which the report was based.\u00a0 And we respect PPF\u2019s independence in summarizing them.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not perfect or unassailable \u2013 no study is \u2013 but it\u2019s an unbiased assessment of where we stand in the world, and we wanted that.<\/p>\n

(We should note that the report covered only nuclear energy, and not the many other applications of nuclear technologies in which Canada is a world leader, such as medical imaging and diagnosis, radiotherapy, materials testing, and food safety).<\/p>\n

Of course, we wouldn’t necessarily agree with everything in the report.<\/p>\n
