Pour les astronautes, cela implique une longue dur\u00e9e d\u2019exposition aux rayonnements li\u00e9s aux voyages dans l\u2019espace.<\/p>\n<p>Une fus\u00e9e \u00e0 propulsion nucl\u00e9aire pourrait diminuer de plus de la moiti\u00e9 la dur\u00e9e du trajet, r\u00e9duisant ainsi le temps pass\u00e9 dans l\u2019espace et l\u2019exposition aux rayonnements.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Cela nous offre la possibilit\u00e9 de v\u00e9ritablement prot\u00e9ger des vies, en ce qui concerne les doses de rayonnement absorb\u00e9es pendant un voyage entre la Terre et Mars\u00a0\u00bb, a expliqu\u00e9 M.\u00a0Bridenstine.<\/p>\n<p>Des \u00e9tudes r\u00e9centes d\u00e9montrent la n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 de rendre les voyages dans l\u2019espace lointain plus rapides et l\u2019importance de r\u00e9duire l\u2019exposition aux rayonnements. Une \u00e9tude de la Facult\u00e9 de m\u00e9decine de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Californie \u00e0 Irvine (UCI) a r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 que des souris expos\u00e9es pendant six mois \u00e0 des niveaux de rayonnement d\u2019un voyage interplan\u00e9taire souffraient de graves troubles de l\u2019apprentissage et de la m\u00e9moire.<\/p>\n<p>Un temps de trajet plus court r\u00e9duirait \u00e9galement les quantit\u00e9s de nourriture, d\u2019eau et d\u2019oxyg\u00e8ne qu\u2019un \u00e9quipage devrait transporter pour le voyage.<\/p>\n<p>Comment cela fonctionne-t-il?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/news\/2019-07-earth-mars-days-power-nuclear.html\">Phys.org<\/a> a expliqu\u00e9 la technologie comme ceci\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0Une boule de combustible d\u2019uranium de la taille d\u2019une bille subit une fission, ce qui lib\u00e8re une quantit\u00e9 ph\u00e9nom\u00e9nale de chaleur. L\u2019hydrog\u00e8ne est ainsi chauff\u00e9 \u00e0 pr\u00e8s de 2\u00a0500\u00a0degr\u00e9s Celsius, avant d\u2019\u00eatre expuls\u00e9 \u00e0 tr\u00e8s grande vitesse depuis le bas de la fus\u00e9e, ce qui donne \u00e0 cette derni\u00e8re une efficacit\u00e9 de propulsion deux \u00e0 trois fois sup\u00e9rieure \u00e0 celle d\u2019une fus\u00e9e chimique.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019utilisation de l\u2019\u00e9nergie nucl\u00e9aire pour l\u2019exploration de l\u2019espace lointain n\u2019est pas une id\u00e9e nouvelle.<\/p>\n<p>Les forces arm\u00e9es am\u00e9ricaines et la NASA ont commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 \u00e9tudier le concept dans les ann\u00e9es\u00a01950 avec le programme Rover et dans les ann\u00e9es\u00a01960 avec le programme <a href=\"https:\/\/www1.grc.nasa.gov\/historic-facilities\/rockets-systems-area\/7911-2\/\">NERVA<\/a> (Nuclear Engine for Rocket Vehicle Application \u2013 moteur nucl\u00e9aire pour application moteur-fus\u00e9e).<\/p>\n<p>Plusieurs essais ont \u00e9t\u00e9 men\u00e9s sur des moteurs nucl\u00e9aires, mais le programme a \u00e9t\u00e9 annul\u00e9 en 1973 avant m\u00eame qu\u2019un vol d\u2019essai soit r\u00e9alis\u00e9, car la NASA a d\u00e9cid\u00e9 d\u2019abandonner les missions vers la Lune et vers Mars afin de se concentrer sur le programme de la navette spatiale.<\/p>\n<p>Mais aujourd\u2019hui, l\u2019id\u00e9e d\u2019une fus\u00e9e nucl\u00e9aire fait son retour au sein de la NASA.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cela peut avoir des allures de science-fiction, mais ce n\u2019en est pas.
