Elle aura travaill\u00e9 comme \u00e9tudiante dipl\u00f4m\u00e9e avec M. Ernest Rutherford \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 McGill, au d\u00e9but du 20e si\u00e8cle.<\/p>\n<p>Elle figure aussi parmi les premi\u00e8res personnes \u00e0 d\u00e9couvrir le radon et \u00e0 tenter de d\u00e9terminer sa masse atomique.<\/p>\n<p>Bien connue des milieux du nucl\u00e9aire canadiens, Mme Brooks n\u2019est toutefois pas aussi connue que Marie Curie, sous la supervision de qui elle aura bri\u00e8vement travaill\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Bien que les Laboratoires nucl\u00e9aires canadiens aient r\u00e9cemment rebaptis\u00e9 un laboratoire de recherche nucl\u00e9aire de Chalk River en son nom et qu\u2019elle soit membre du Panth\u00e9on canadien des sciences et du g\u00e9nie, Harriet Brooks n\u2019a pas marqu\u00e9 la culture hors des milieux universitaire et scientifique comme l\u2019a fait Marie Curie, qui a par exemple re\u00e7u un Google Doodle le jour de son anniversaire.<\/p>\n<p>Aujourd\u2019hui, 85 ans apr\u00e8s son d\u00e9c\u00e8s, une de ses descendantes essaie de braquer les projecteurs sur son histoire.<\/p>\n<p>WONDER est une production th\u00e9\u00e2trale en pleine cr\u00e9ation sur les barri\u00e8res de genre auxquelles Mme Brooks a \u00e9t\u00e9 confront\u00e9e. Il s\u2019agit de la premi\u00e8re pi\u00e8ce \u00e9crite par l\u2019actrice canadienne Ellen Denny, arri\u00e8re-petite-ni\u00e8ce de Mme Brooks.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab \u00c0 travers ce projet, explique Denny, j\u2019esp\u00e8re rendre hommage aux innombrables femmes dans les sciences qui sont pass\u00e9es sous silence et motiver celles qui continuent de lutter pour l\u2019\u00e9galit\u00e9 des sexes. Par exemple, en 2010, les facult\u00e9s de physique dans les universit\u00e9s canadiennes comptaient seulement 12,4 pour cent de femmes. En outre, seuls 30 pour cent de femmes suivaient des cours de physique au secondaire, contre 60 pour cent d\u2019hommes.<\/p>\n<p>Denny pr\u00e9cise : \u00ab La pi\u00e8ce WONDER est l\u2019occasion de jeter des ponts entre les communaut\u00e9s scientifique et artistique, mais aussi d\u2019amorcer le d\u00e9bat sur la fa\u00e7on de cr\u00e9er des milieux de travail offrant une \u00e9galit\u00e9 de chances \u00e0 tous. \u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Jusqu\u2019ici, les r\u00e9actions au projet de Denny sont positives. Sa campagne Kickstarter pour financer un atelier de la pi\u00e8ce a permis de r\u00e9colter plus de 2 000 $, soit pr\u00e8s du triple de son objectif initial.<\/p>\n<p>Avant de passer \u00e0 la production pour la premi\u00e8re de WONDER, il faut consacrer un peu de temps au \u00ab labo \u00bb, ce qu\u2019on appelle un \u00ab atelier \u00bb au th\u00e9\u00e2tre.
