Les <a href=\"http:\/\/crca.caloosahatchee.org\/crca_docs\/Heraldtribune_Timeline.pdf\">mar\u00e9es rouges<\/a>, des colonies d\u2019efflorescences d\u2019algues toxiques (EAT) ne sont pas neuves pour les communaut\u00e9s c\u00f4ti\u00e8res. Ce ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne est document\u00e9 depuis des si\u00e8cles, mais ce n&#8217;est que r\u00e9cemment que les chercheurs ont examin\u00e9 l&#8217;incidence des changements de l&#8217;environnement oc\u00e9anique sur ce ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne c\u00f4tier.<\/p>\n<p>C\u2019est alors que sont intervenues les sciences nucl\u00e9aires.\u200b Des chercheurs des <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iaea.org\/monaco\/page.php?page=1030\">laboratoires de l\u2019Agence internationale de l\u2019\u00e9nergie atomique (AIEA) de Monaco<\/a> utilisent une technique nucl\u00e9aire connue sous le nom d\u2019\u00e9preuve de liaison ligand-r\u00e9cepteur (TIR) pour mieux d\u00e9tecter et \u00e9tablir la cartographie de ces efflorescences d\u2019algues toxiques (EAT) afin de prot\u00e9ger les populations humaines.<\/p>\n<p>Voici comment fonctionne le <a href=\"http:\/\/www-pub.iaea.org\/MTCD\/Publications\/PDF\/TE-1729_web.pdf\">TIR<\/a>\u00a0: des toxines et radiotraceurs ou isotopes radioactifs rivalisent pour s\u2019attacher aux r\u00e9cepteurs ou cellules au sein d\u2019un \u00e9chantillon pr\u00e9lev\u00e9. \u00a0Le comportement des isotopes montre aux chercheurs le niveau de toxicit\u00e9 de l\u2019\u00e9chantillon.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-16933 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/cna.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/redtide-MOBILE.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cna.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/redtide-MOBILE.jpg 500w, https:\/\/cna.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/redtide-MOBILE-300x120.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Les mar\u00e9es rouges sont transport\u00e9es par le vent et les courants oc\u00e9aniques, et aboutissent habituellement pr\u00e8s des c\u00f4tes.\u00a0 Le r\u00e9chauffement oc\u00e9anique provoqu\u00e9 par l\u2019absorption des gaz \u00e0 effet de serre caus\u00e9s par le changement climatique augmente la fr\u00e9quence et la gravit\u00e9 de ces efflorescences toxiques.<\/p>\n<p>Comme l\u2019a fait remarquer l\u2019<a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/sites\/production\/files\/documents\/climatehabs.pdf\">Agence de la protection de l\u2019environnement des \u00c9tats-Unis (EPA)<\/a> , les recherches r\u00e9centes sugg\u00e8rent que les r\u00e9percussions du changement climatique renforcent la croissance et la dominance des efflorescences d\u2019algues toxiques par le biais de diff\u00e9rents m\u00e9canismes, notamment la hausse des temp\u00e9ratures, les changements de salinit\u00e9, l\u2019augmentation des concentrations atmosph\u00e9riques en dioxyde de carbone, les changements de pluviosit\u00e9, la remont\u00e9e des eaux c\u00f4ti\u00e8res et la mont\u00e9e du niveau des mers.<\/p>\n<p>Les mar\u00e9es rouges peuvent s\u2019av\u00e9rer d\u00e9vastatrices pour les \u00e9conomies fond\u00e9es sur l\u2019aquaculture des pays d\u00e9velopp\u00e9s et en d\u00e9veloppement. Une mar\u00e9e rouge qui a touch\u00e9 l\u2019<a href=\"https:\/\/www.iaea.org\/newscenter\/multimedia\/videos\/rba-red-tide-control-field-update\">\u00eele de Lu\u00e7on, aux Philippines<\/a>, en 2006, a eu des r\u00e9percussions tr\u00e8s pr\u00e9judiciables pour 12\u00a0000 familles qui gagnent leur vie en p\u00eachant des crustac\u00e9s. Quand ces plantes toxiques p\u00e9n\u00e8trent dans le r\u00e9seau trophique, elles peuvent tuer des quantit\u00e9s importantes de poissons et de faune marine. Les <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC2659475\/\">US National Library\u00a0Institutes of Medicine and Health<\/a> (Instituts de m\u00e9decine et de sant\u00e9 de la biblioth\u00e8que nationale des \u00c9tats-Unis) ont d\u00e9couvert de hauts niveaux de toxines chez des lamantins et des dauphins morts apr\u00e8s une mar\u00e9e rouge.<\/p>\n<p>Toutefois, l\u2019incidence des mar\u00e9es rouges ne se limite pas \u00e0 la faune marine. Les EAT peuvent aussi rendre malades les \u00eatres humains, affectant principalement le syst\u00e8me nerveux. L\u2019<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bccdc.ca\/health-info\/diseases-conditions\/paralytic-shellfish-poisoning\">intoxication paralysante par les mollusques (IPM)<\/a> est une intoxication qui peut \u00eatre mortelle et survient chez les personnes qui consomment des crustac\u00e9s contenant des toxines de mar\u00e9e rouge. Manger des crustac\u00e9s infect\u00e9s peut avoir un effet sur le syst\u00e8me nerveux et provoquer des vertiges ou des difficult\u00e9s \u00e0 avaler.
