OTTAWA (July 17, 2015)<\/strong> \u2013The Canadian Nuclear Association (CNA)<\/a> looks forward to working with the Quebec Government as it studies the benefits and risks posed by uranium mining.<\/p>\n

“We appreciate that the Quebec Government is keeping an open mind on this issue, particularly as it works with all other provinces to develop a clean energy strategy for Canada,” CNA President , John Barrett said.<\/p>\n

The CNA will review the report that has been released today.<\/p>\n

Nuclear power generation provides low emitting Green House Gas electricity that helps to fight climate change.<\/p>\n

Nuclear power generation provided 62 per cent of Ontario’s low emitting electricity.<\/p>\n

Canada is a world leader in uranium mining and nuclear fuel fabrication. The uranium mining industry is Canada’s largest industrial employer of Aboriginal people. Canada’s nuclear industry employs 60,000 Canadians and contributes more than 6 billion dollars in economic activity.<\/p>\n

About the CNA<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Canadian Nuclear Association (CNA) is a non-profit organization established in 1960 to represent the nuclear industry in Canada and promote the development and growth of nuclear technologies for peaceful purposes.<\/p>\n

The CNA works to: Create and foster a political environment and reasonable regulatory framework for advancing the nuclear industry in Canada. Encourage cooperation among various industries, utilities, educational institutions, government departments and agencies, and other authoritative bodies that have a common interest in the development of economic uses for nuclear power and radioisotopes. Provide a forum for the discussion and resolution of issues of concern to members, to industry, or to the Canadian public.<\/p>\n

Encourage cooperation with other associations that have similar objectives and purposes.<\/p>\n
