Nous estimons qu\u2019elle procurera \u00e0 l\u2019industrie un petit r\u00e9acteur modulaire de puissance simplement plus pratique et plus \u00e9conomique qu\u2019une centrale au charbon.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>La demande d\u2019\u00e9nergie mondiale <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iea.org\/Textbase\/npsum\/WEO2014SUM.pdf\">augmentera consid\u00e9rablement au cours de la prochaine g\u00e9n\u00e9ration<\/a>, principalement en raison de la croissance d\u00e9mographique et de l\u2019industrialisation en Asie. Nombre de pays cherchent \u00e0 se doter de sources d\u2019\u00e9nergie \u00e9conomiques qui \u00e9vitent l\u2019\u00e9mission des <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ipcc.ch\/pdf\/assessment-report\/ar5\/syr\/SYR_AR5_SPMcorr1.pdf\">gaz \u00e0 effet de serre responsables du changement climatique<\/a> g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9s par le charbon, le gaz naturel et le mazout.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_10705\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10705\" class=\"wp-image-10705 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cna.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Terrestrial-Energy2-300x203.jpg\" alt=\"Centrale IMSR\" width=\"300\" height=\"203\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cna.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Terrestrial-Energy2-300x203.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cna.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Terrestrial-Energy2.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-10705\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Centrale IMSR.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Le besoin d\u2019une innovation propre \u00e0 changer la donne est beaucoup plus pressant maintenant qu\u2019au cours des d\u00e9cennies pr\u00e9c\u00e9dentes, affirme Simon\u00a0Irish. Nous nous heurtons \u00e0 de nombreux probl\u00e8mes pour ce qui est de trouver des approvisionnements \u00e9nerg\u00e9tiques offrant s\u00e9curit\u00e9, s\u00fbret\u00e9 et \u00e9conomie au cours des 20\u00a0prochaines ann\u00e9es. Il n\u2019est pas envisageable sur le plan pratique de recourir aux approches existantes pour r\u00e9soudre ce type de probl\u00e8mes.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Le <a href=\"http:\/\/terrestrialenergy.com\/imsr-technology\/\">r\u00e9acteur \u00e0 sels fondus<\/a> repose sur une technologie totalement diff\u00e9rente de celle des r\u00e9acteurs commerciaux refroidis \u00e0 eau d\u2019aujourd\u2019hui. Au lieu d\u2019utiliser de l\u2019uranium solide comme combustible, il utilise de l\u2019uranium dissous dans un m\u00e9lange de sels liquide. D\u2019apr\u00e8s M.\u00a0Irish, cette technique conf\u00e8re aux r\u00e9acteurs \u00e0 sels fondus un profil tout \u00e0 fait unique au chapitre de la s\u00fbret\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Une perte du caloporteur primaire est impossible, car le combustible et le caloporteur sont un seul et m\u00eame produit, explique-t-il, et ils ne sont pas sous pression comme dans les r\u00e9acteurs \u00e0 combustible solide classiques. La technologie du r\u00e9acteur IMSR mise sur la s\u00fbret\u00e9 passive\u00a0\u2013 c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire que la s\u00fbret\u00e9 est assur\u00e9e, m\u00eame en l\u2019absence d\u2019alimentation de secours.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_10706\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10706\" class=\"wp-image-10706 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cna.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Terrestrial-Energy3-300x203.jpg\" alt=\"Coupe transversale d\u2019un r\u00e9acteur IMSR\" width=\"300\" height=\"203\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cna.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Terrestrial-Energy3-300x203.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cna.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Terrestrial-Energy3.jpg 599w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-10706\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Coupe transversale d\u2019un r\u00e9acteur IMSR.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Le r\u00e9acteur \u00e0 sels fondus n\u2019est pas encore offert sur le march\u00e9, mais il fait appel \u00e0 une technologie nucl\u00e9aire \u00e9prouv\u00e9e et reconnue dont le prestigieux <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ornl.gov\/\">Laboratoire national Oak Ridge<\/a>, au Tennessee, a fait la d\u00e9monstration de la fin des ann\u00e9es\u00a01950 aux ann\u00e9es\u00a01970.<\/p>\n<p>Le truc consiste \u00e0 transformer un r\u00e9acteur de laboratoire en un r\u00e9acteur adapt\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019industrie\u00a0\u2013 et c\u2019est l\u00e0 que l\u2019innovation entre en jeu.<\/p>\n<p>En s\u2019appuyant sur les d\u00e9monstrations du laboratoire Oak Ridge, Terrestrial Energy a d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 une technologie de r\u00e9acteur qui semble simple, s\u00fbre, pratique et tr\u00e8s \u00e9conomique pour l\u2019industrie. Ce r\u00e9acteur pourrait \u00eatre mis en service au d\u00e9but de la prochaine d\u00e9cennie.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0La premi\u00e8re \u00e9tape de notre parcours vers la commercialisation consiste \u00e0 fabriquer notre premier r\u00e9acteur commercial, \u00e0 le construire sur un site au Canada et \u00e0 obtenir un permis d\u2019exploitation aupr\u00e8s de la <a href=\"http:\/\/nuclearsafety.gc.ca\/fra\/index.cfm\">Commission canadienne de s\u00fbret\u00e9 nucl\u00e9aire<\/a>, ajoute M.\u00a0Irish.
