Le rayonnement traverse le corps et impressionne un film. Ce mat\u00e9riau, souvent appel\u00e9 traceur, \u00e9met des rayons gamma de l\u2019int\u00e9rieur du corps du patient et est d\u00e9tect\u00e9 par un dispositif d\u2019imagerie, dans lequel le patient est assis ou \u00e0 proximit\u00e9 duquel il se place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les professionnels canadiens de la m\u00e9decine nucl\u00e9aire (radiologues, technologues, pharmaciens et physiciens nucl\u00e9aires) ont \u00e9tudi\u00e9 pendant des d\u00e9cennies diff\u00e9rents isotopes m\u00e9dicaux. Cette recherche a permis de mettre au point des traitements nucl\u00e9aires plus efficaces. Les tissus du corps, tels que les os et le sang, absorbent divers isotopes \u00e0 des taux diff\u00e9rents, ce qui signifie qu\u2019une \u00e9quipe m\u00e9dicale peut prendre des images d\u2019une zone sp\u00e9cifique tout en limitant l\u2019exposition du reste du corps au rayonnement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les techniques de tra\u00e7age peuvent \u00e9galement permettre d\u2019\u00e9valuer la croissance osseuse ou les zones de circulation sanguine restreinte, et de produire des images fonctionnelles en temps r\u00e9el d\u2019organes tels que le cerveau, le c\u0153ur, le foie, les poumons et les reins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les progr\u00e8s continus de la recherche am\u00e9liorent la pr\u00e9cision des proc\u00e9dures de diagnostic de m\u00e9decine nucl\u00e9aire qui sauvent des vies, tout en limitant les doses de rayonnement. <a href=\"http:\/\/hps.org\/documents\/Medical_Exposures_Fact_Sheet.pdf\">Selon la Health Physics Society<\/a>, les proc\u00e9dures courantes de m\u00e9decine nucl\u00e9aire utilisent des doses comprises entre 1,8 et 14,1&nbsp;millisieverts ou entre 0,6 et 4,7&nbsp;fois la dose re\u00e7ue annuellement par rayonnement naturel de fond dans la plupart des r\u00e9gions du Canada.
