As far as the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation & Trade Donna Skelly is concerned, Bruce Power is doing it right and the Ontario government is taking notice.
Skelly was a keynote speaker, November 16th, at the third annual Economic Development and Innovation Summit at Bruce Power.
She says the company is becoming the template to what a large company should be in the province.
Skelly says Bruce Power is a good corporate citizen, believes in safety first and their goal is to work towards decreased costs for hydro while being a driving force in Ontario’s economy.
She says the Tiverton company is known for the high-paying jobs it offers in the skilled trades area.
Skelly says for far too long, jobs in the skilled trades sector were an afterthought, but Bruce Power is helping to change that outlook.
She says it will allow young people an opportunity to afford a home and to bring up a family.
Skelly says it’s obvious Bruce County is open for business through Bruce Power and it’s a goal her Conservative government is aiming for, with the province.
Through the Life Extension Program, Bruce Power has created jobs in Bruce, Grey and Huron counties, including Owen Sound where some 50 jobs are being created by BWXT Canada and Brotech Precision CNC.
The President of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, Rocco Rossi, also speaking at the event, says a strong nuclear industry is essential to a strong economy in Ontario.
